Hongsa Power Plant has been ready for starting commercial operation of its Unit 3 since 00:00 h. on 1 March 2016, a day before the commercial operation date (COD) stated in the power purchase agreement made with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) - 2 March 2016.

 

Mr. Somsak Sitthinamsuwan, Managing Director of Hongsa Power Co., Ltd. (HPC) stated that "the completion ahead the schedule of the unit 3 is the success of project management and the fruitful cooperation of all related parties; contractor for construction, EGAT, Electricite du Laos (EDL), contractor for operation and maintenance, all levels of the government offices of Laos, residences in Nan province, Thailand and local people of Hongsa and Ngern districts, Xayabouly province, Lao PDR, I would like to thank them all as they are part of our success today."

 

Hongsa Power Plant consisted of 3 power stations with the production capacity of 626 MW each; total production capacity is 1,878 MW.  The Commercial Operation Dates (CODs) of Units 1 and 2 were completed on 2 June 2015 and 2 November 2015 respectively.  Therefore, the CODs of Hongsa Power Plant were all precisely on time as committed in the Concession Agreement and Power Purchase Agreements with EGAT and Electricite du Laos (EDL).   

 

Hongsa Power Plant offers an important to the energy security of Lao PDR.  As it is a mine-mouth power plant, thus the fuel price for electricity generating is in control.  HPC has selected suitable technology in power plant construction and installed emission control equipments in accordance with World Bank Environmental Standard.  The environment monitoring and  measurement are severely implemented under the strictly assessment and audit of the Government of Laos. 

 

 

Hongsa Power Company Limited was registered in with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR, with three shareholders, namely Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE),a state corporation of Laos, holding 20%, Banpu Power Public Company Limited (BPP) holding 40% and RH International (Singapore) Corporation Pte. Ltd., the subsidiary of RATCH, holding 40% of the company. HPC received 25 year concession period (2016-2041) to operate the lignite mine feeding thermal power plant to generate electricity sales to EDL and EGAT.
