May 18, 2016.  Xayabouly Provincial Public Health Office and HPC's Social Development Department of Hongsa Power Co., Ltd. (HPC) have signed the agreement for Hongsa Health Surveillance 2016 in 6-10 kilometers radiance of Hongsa Power Plant, including Hongsa municipal area and Ban Nakanekham, the resettlement village. The total of 4,064 persons in  vulnerable groups; children under 5 years old, women in reproductive age, elderly persons over 60 years old and people with congenital disease will be clinical examined in June-July 2016 and recorded in database, to guarantee that HPC power generation do not make any harm on people's health. Moreover, public health practitioners in Hongsa distrect and Xayabuly province will improve their proficiency in using medical tools and equipments that HPC had previously provided to Hongsa Hospital.   The signing ceremony was arranged at Hongsa Resort where Mr. Somsak Sithinamsuwan, HPC's Managing Director has signed the agreement with Dr. Khamlar Phouthongsy, Deputy Head of Xayabouly Provincial Public Health Office among the witnesses from Ministry of Public Health and officials from Xayabouly province and Hongsa district.

Activities in 2015:

  • March - May 2015: Physical health check program for people living in 5 kilometers radiance of Hongsa Power Plant; baseline data before HPC's power generation period.
  • August and December 2015: Technical Workshops on Public Epidemiology and Biostatistics for Public Health practitioners.
  • October 2015 onwards: Epidemiology awareness activities implementation by village health care volunteers

Plan for 2016

 

  • June-July 2016: Physical health check program for people living in 5 kilometers radiance of Hongsa Power Plant including area of Hongsa municipal and Ban Nakanekham, the resettlement village, additional baseline data.
  • Training for village health care volunteers on work and skills improvement
  • Data collection; health surveillance and follow-up for the migrants to Hongsa (service sector), due to power project development, including sexual transmitted disease.
