The Hongsa Power Company Limited, developer of the first lignite thermal power plant in Laos, donated 40 million kip (almost US$5,000) last Friday to support the 2015 Elephant Festival.
The donation was presented by the Managing Director of Hongsa Power Company Limited, Mr Eisuke Asada to the Vice Governor of Xayaboury Province, Mr Yanyong Sipaseuth, in the presence of relevant officials from both sides.On behalf of the provincial authorities and people, Mr Yanyong expressed his gratitude to the Hongsa Power Company for its generous support.   
“This is not the first time that the company has given support for the annual Elephant Festival,” he said.
 Mr Yanyong added that the relevant authorities will use the donation effectively. 
The 2015 Elephant Festival is scheduled for 13-15 February in Xayaboury district of Xayaboury Province.
The festival aims to raise public awareness of the need to protect elephants in the country.
