Hongsa Power Company Limited will conduct health checks for local people who are living in surrounding areas of the project before Commercial Operation Date in June 2015.
The free health checks are to ensure that the power plant doesn’t create significant pollution or adversely affect the health of people living near the project.
The free health checks will begin early February and continue until May 2015. Around 6,000 people live within five square kilometres of both the construction site of the project in Hongsa District, and the limestone quarry in Ngeun District.  The people will receive thorough health checks from a medical team from Xayaboury Provincial Health Department in cooperation with the Social Development Department of the company.
The total value of the health checks is expected to be over 3 billion kip (US$367,500) and will be paid for by the company.
The agreement was reached last week between the Managing Director of the Hongsa Power Company, Mr Eisuke Asada and the Head of the Xayaboury Provincial Health Department, Dr Bounthiem Nanthakone in witnesses of relevant officials from both sides.
The people will have their health checked again after the company runs the electricity generating operation.  The health checks will then be compared and evaluated.
The Lao government wants to ensure the health and safety of local people.
